Questions & answers

Is Sclerothix® a cold process thickener?

Yes, it can be used in a cold process but for the best effect in terms of texture and viscosity we recommend it be heated to 70°C before the homogenisation step.

What level of Sclerothix® do I need to suspend my exfoliating particles?

Each exfoliating blend will require a different minimum level of thickener to suspend it. This will depend on its weight, surface area and irregularity of shape, but should be between 1 and 2%.

Can I thicken my natural surfactant blend using Sclerothix®?

Each surfactant combination will be different – we recommend trying a low level of Sclerothix® initially and increasing it if necessary.

Why is my dispersion of Sclerothix® slightly hazy?

Sclerothix® is virtually transparent but there may be some haziness when salt, surfactants or extremes of pH are used and also ensure there are no traces of water insoluble material in the formulation.

Can I use Sclerothix® in an emulsion?

Sclerothix® is an ideal addition to any emulsion formulation, providing both a non sticky texture and stabilising effect.
